How to plan your engagement session

So you're engaged, congrats! One of the most fun and exciting parts of the wedding planning process is getting to have your engagement photos taken. It's a great way to capture this special time in your relationship and to get some beautiful photos to use for your save-the-dates, wedding website, and maybe even for some framed prints in your home.

But before you jump in and schedule your engagement session, there are a few things you'll want to consider to make sure it goes smoothly and you end up with photos you love. Here are some tips on how to plan your engagement session:

Choose the right location

Think about what kind of setting reflects your personalities as a couple. Do you love the beach, the mountains, a cozy coffee shop, or maybe even the city streets? Pick a location that speaks to you both and that you feel comfortable in. If you're not sure where to start, ask your photographer for suggestions based on your interests and preferences.

Coordinate your outfits

You don't have to wear matching outfits, but it's a good idea to coordinate your looks so that they complement each other. Consider the location and the season when choosing your outfits. And don't be afraid to add some pops of color or patterns to make your photos stand out. Avoid wearing clothing with logos or busy patterns that may be distracting in the photos.

Schedule your session at the right time of day

The best lighting for photos is typically early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the sun is low in the sky. Avoid scheduling your session in the middle of the day when the sun is harsh and can create unflattering shadows. Talk to your photographer about the best time of day for your chosen location.

Plan some props or activities

Think about incorporating some props or activities into your session to add a personal touch. Maybe you want to bring along a picnic blanket and some champagne for a cozy outdoor picnic, or maybe you want to bring along your furry friend for some cute pet photos. Whatever you decide, make sure it reflects your personality and brings out the connection between you and your partner.

Relax and have fun

Remember, engagement sessions are meant to be fun and laid-back. Try to relax and enjoy the experience – it's a chance to spend some quality time together and have some fun with your partner. Trust your photographer to guide you through the session and capture some beautiful moments between you.

Planning your engagement session doesn't have to be stressful – just follow these tips and you're sure to end up with some amazing photos that you'll cherish for years to come. And most importantly, remember to be yourself and let your love shine through in every shot. Happy planning!
